Canadian Ocean Racing was founded by Morgen Watson and Meg Reilly to promote the sport of offshore sailing and develop Canada’s premier offshore racing program.
The duo established the program following their Clipper Round the World Race win in 2014. Wanting to build off the momentum of the win, Watson created the program to inspire fellow Canadian sailors to dream big about offshore racing.
Watson has since teamed up with other aspiring Canadian sailors, providing them the opportunities necessary to build a stronger Canadian presence in offshore racing. Canadian Ocean Racing is not just a racing team, but really a program to offer aspiring sailors access, opportunity and mentorship in highly competitive ocean racing events.
Since the team’s founding in 2015, Canadian Ocean Racing (COR) has taken O Canada (formally Spirit of Canada) on a journey through the IMOCA Ocean Masters Open 60 competitions. The team has expanded internationally as Ocean Racers with a Pogo 12.50 to provide a platform for more sailors to participate in offshore races like the Caribbean 600 and Antigua Bermuda Race.
Canadian Ocean Racing / Ocean Racers continues to strive for excellence in offshore sailing both nationally and abroad. The team’s mission will always be to develop equal sailing opportunities for sailors of all levels, while providing a pathway for youth and mixed teams at professional levels. Whether it be Class 40, Open 60 or even a Volvo Ocean Race campaign, the team will continue it’s mission to support Canadian, youth and mixed sailing teams in an international arena.
